Week 14: The Next Big Thing

Thanks for tagging me, Ashley Fontainne,

Ten Interview Questions for The Next Big Thing:

What is the title of your book?

A Light in the Dark

Where did the idea come from for the book?

The idea came from a video I saw on youtube about conjoined twins who were separated shortly after birth and desired nothing more than to be reattached. I thought that was a really cool concept for a story. I started writing this with that story in mind, but it soon expanded into something far more, spanning 150,000 words and two novels.

What genre does your book fall under?

Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Dark Fantasy...any of these categories are appropriate.

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

Scarlette Johansen would be a great Teret Finley, Christian Bale would be a great Decon Mangler...Ian Somerhalder would be a good Julian.

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

Julian has to disregard everything he grew up believing to survive.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

It is published by World Castle Publishing

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

The first draft took about a month for the first draft and 4 or 5 months of rewrites

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

The best novel(s) I can compare this to is Stephen King's Dark Tower series. Like the Dark Tower, A Light in the Dark takes place in a rundown, post-apocalyptic world.

Who or What inspired you to write this book?

After Andrew Utley and I finished writing Harvester: Ascension together, I immediately started on An Inner Darkness, the book this novel is sequel to. Not only did I have a great idea, but I also needed to know I could write a book on my own. I think I have certainly proven that.

What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

This book concludes the original story in what I'm calling The Series of Darkness, but all of my books touch on this story in some way.
